Luego de que la Academia de Cine de EU anunciara que habrá cuatro premios Oscar que entregará fuera del aire en su próxima emisión el 24 de febrero —entre las que se encuentran Fotografía y Edición—, cineastas como Guillermo del Toro y el nominado Alfonso Cuarón cuestionaron la decisión.

El director de El laberinto del fauno usó Twitter para externar su inconformidad la noche de este lunes. En un tuit, Del Toro aseguró que no podría decidir o sugerir qué categorías no merecían ser transmitidas, pero destacó que la fotografía y la edición son esenciales para la realización del séptimo arte.
“Si me permiten: no me atrevo a sugerir qué categorías deben ser omitidas durante el show de los Oscares, pero la Fotografía y la Edición están en el corazón de nuestro oficio. No son herencia de una tradición teatral o literaria: son el cine mismo”, se lee en el mensaje.

En tanto, Alfonso Cuarón, quien este año contiende por la estatuilla a Mejor Director, también opinó al respecto; el director de Roma dijo que ninguna película puede existir sin edición ni fotografía.

“En la historia del cine, las obras maestras han existido sin sonido, sin color, sin historia, sin actores y sin música. No hay una sola película que haya existido sin la cinematografía y sin la edición”.
Los premios a Mejor Fotografía, Mejor Montaje, Mejor Cortometraje y Mejor Maquillaje y Vestuario serán entregados durante los segmentos comerciales de la ceremonia, pero los discursos de los ganadores sí serán emitidos a lo largo de la premiación.
Esta mañana, Del Toro se tomó el tiempo para difundir también esta información, previamente dada a conocer por la Academia.
